The Litter Box

1. When new litter is placed in your cat's litter box, it is not unusual for your cat to scratch about and flick it all over the floor. This scratching behavior is an instinctive ritual most cats have when they have soil or similar under their paws.

New litter is a foreign smell to your cat as it is yet to be marked by her. As cats have scent glands in between their foot pads, by scratching around in the new litter, she is marking her territory. This makes for a happy cat.

2. The number of trays required per household is dependent upon the number of cats. In general, it is 1.5 trays per cat. If you have 2 cats, then 3 is the recommended number of trays to have.
